We're Hiring -- AmeriCorps*VISTA

netCorps is looking for an AmeriCorps*VISTA to help with our work with nonprofits in North Carolina.

netCorps is currently recruiting for a technology-related VISTA position to start in late November of 2007. This position, based in Greensboro, North Carolina will work with environmental, social justice and community-based nonprofits on their technology needs.

Tasks and activities of these positions include:

  1. Producing customized technology assessment reports for nonprofits, including short term and long term tech plans, and technology budgets.
  2. Repairing and refurbishing computers.
  3. Securing new and used technology hardware and software through donation and/or purchase (as per the needs of each organization).
  4. Assessing the computer skills of each organization's staff and providing training to fill in the knowledge gaps.
  5. Establishing computer networks, both wired and wireless, and enabling the sharing of network resources such as printers and files.
  6. Setting up email accounts for staff.
  7. Writing best practice computer/network/security policies and procedures for each organization.
  8. Creating and updating websites.
  9. Identifying funding sources for nonprofits that will enable them to afford their top-priority technology needs.

 

Required skills and activities include:

 

  1. Understanding of Windows desktop and server operating systems.
  2. A strong grasp of Microsoft Office applications.
  3. The ability to establish peer to peer and client-server networks.
  4. The ability to troubleshoot computer hardware, email, website, network and database problems. 
  5. Experience with and an understanding of database applications and database structures.
  6. A passion for bridging the digital divide. 
  7. Assessment and report writing will be key activities of this position, and as such, the ideal candidate will have exemplary writing skills. 
  8. The ability to communicate with both technology novices and experts is also a necessity.
  9. A valid driver's license and a safe driving record are required for these positions, as they will require travel.
