NetCorps LEAP
The List Enhancement Action Project (LEAP) has two main goals: to serve as a trustworthy and effective platform for collaborative efforts and to strengthen the capacity of social justice organizations to carry out their missions.
LEAP strengthens advocacy-oriented, progressive nonprofit organizations in North Carolina by providing them with the technology of list enhancement and the training necessary to integrate this technology into grassroots organizing and activism.
Membership lists of partnering groups are "enhanced" by appending demographic information, gathered from publicly available voter registration files, to each person's name on the list. This information includes age, ethnicity, gender, congressional and legislative district data, and how many times their members have voted in the last four elections.
Strength Through Collaboration
LEAP organizations have used their list enhancements internally to help with fundraising, anti-racism work, neighborhood organizing, and collaborative efforts. By bringing together justice-oriented organizations with different backgrounds, diverse approaches to organizing and an array of issue foci, LEAP serves as a platform for statewide collaborative efforts planned and implemented by partnering organizations.
LEAP Works in Partnership with the Democracy Project
Since 2004, LEAP has joined forces with a list enhancement effort of the Gill Foundation called the Democracy Project. The Gill Foundation advocates for equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. They are enhancing lists in 15 states across the country, including North Carolina.
By teaming up with the Democracy Project, all of our groups are strengthened by bringing together the best of our enhancement efforts in this important alliance! Our cooperation will help save resources and reduce the chances for a duplication of efforts. Partner groups will reap the benefits of easier access to and manipulation of their secure databases, free on-site technology trainings, and the ability to work with an even larger pool of allied organizations.
