NetCorps Opens Office in the Gate City

by admin last modified June 26, 2007 04:49

NetCorps is excited to announce the opening of our new Greensboro office with our Guildford County pilot project, Tech TIPS (Technology Training, Implementation and Planning Service). Building on the success of NetCorps' 2003-2004 TAPP initiative (Technology Assessment and Planning Project), Tech TIPS promises to reach small, grassroots nonprofits in the Greater Greensboro area that otherwise could not afford technology services.

Tech TIPS is the result of a partnership between NetCorps, the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro (CFGG), AmeriCorps, the Community Technology Centers Network (CTCnet) and Lutheran Family Services of the Carolinas (LFS).  During the first year of this project, which will last from Septemeber 2005 through September 2006, NetCorps hopes to reach nonprofits with small budgets that are in dire need of technology help.  The project will focus on assisting these groups with technology assessment and planning, training and implementation.  Shelly Bowers-Roghelia, Managing Director of NetCorps' Durham, NC office says, "Our goal for Tech TIPS is to provide nonprofits with a sturdy technology foundation: plans, budgets, basic training, networking, et cetera.  In some cases, NetCorps may be the best fit for providing those services, in some cases it may be another nonprofit or for-profit entity: we simply want nonprofits to have that stable foundation, regardless of who is building it."

The 2005-2006 pilot term for this project will be staffed by AmeriCorps VISTA, Aliya Abbasi who brings over 10 years of technology experience to the NetCorps family.  "I absolutely love everything about technology," says Aliya, "and I can't wait to put what I know to use to help nonprofits."

NetCorps would like to give a special thanks to The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro and Lutheran Family Services, both of which have been invaluable in helping us to launch Tech TIPS.
