Why Your Organization Should Participate

There are many reasons why organizations should participate in the Basebuilding Initiative:

• Better Targeting for Advocacy and Fundraising:  Members who vote frequently are more likely to give money, respond to alerts, come to events—you can save money by only mailing to members who will respond.  Target action alerts in a specific legislator’s district or in a specific location.  Target frequent voters for a special fundraising appeal, an event, or for volunteer recruitment.
• Greater Understanding of your Membership:  Knowing your base better can help you communicate more effectively, or develop strategic programs and cultivation efforts.  Let legislators know how many voting members you have in their district.
• A Picture of our Community:  By analyzing our collective memberships, we can better understand where we are strong and where we need to be stronger, and identify strategies for growing our capacity collectively.  Statistical and geographic analysis (GIS based mapping) allows us to understand our base with respect to political, geographical, demographic, and issue based data.  This analysis is performed on the aggregate data, so no organizational, individual, address, or other identifying data is revealed.  Your data is safe, but you become part of the picture of our community.
